Obituary for Kenneth Alan Kreeger

Kenneth Alan Kreeger, 68, of Grafton passed away Thursday, August 2, 2018 at Ames Family Hospice in Westlake following a lengthy illness. He was born September 11, 1949 in Amherst. Ken worked for Nordson Corp. and retired in 2008 as the Director of National Sales. Then, he became a consultant with Nordson thru 2016. Ken was a major player in the powder coating industry with 20 patents and five decades of influential work at Nordson. Ken first began working in the powder coating industry in 1974, and he joined the Powder Coating Institute (PCI) in 1983. He was a past president for PCI as well as past president and director for the Porcelain Enamel Institute. Throughout his many years as a speaker at technical conferences, major trade shows and numerous PCI technical training workshops, Ken was instrumental in educating and mentoring countless PCI members and powder coating professionals. Ken’s technical authority was also key to the development of the Powder Coating Handbook, a highly regarded industry resource manual used around the world. He was honored with a Powder Coating Institute Hall of Fame Award in 2010. As Ken transitioned into retirement, he filled his time with travel, hobbies and family. The title he valued most in life was that of Papa. He loved spending time with his grandchildren. In the summer, he spent countless hours in the pool with his grandkids, and loved planning family trips for all his children and grandchildren. Another passion was his love for corvettes. He was an active member of the Lakeshore Corvette club, enjoying a variety of events all year long. When he wasn’t traveling around locally in his corvette, he enjoyed traveling with his wife and friends around the world. Their favorite place to travel was St. Maarten where they tried to go annually. Ken loved a good get together, so he always enjoyed making his home and outdoor space a welcome place for friends and family. Survivors include his wife of 47 years Kathy (nee Flanagan); sons Erik (Rachel), Kevin (Tiffany), Greg (Maida); grandchildren Keith Kreeger, Madison Kreeger, Hayleigh Kreeger, Chloe Kreeger, Michael Paige, Aubrie O’Donnell; brothers Robert (Kathy) Kreeger, Jack (Lori) Kreeger; nieces and nephews Erika Kreeger, Jennifer (Brian) Redenshek, Michael (Jenna) Kreeger, Angeline (Alan) Lyczkowski, Daniel (Sara) Kreeger; and many close friends and family. He was preceded in death by his parents Raymond and Roberta Kreeger (nee McCord). Family will receive friends 4-8 PM Wednesday, August 8, 2018 at the Laubenthal- Mercado Funeral Home and Cremation Service 38475 Chestnut Ridge Rd. (at St. Rt. 57),Elyria 440-322-4626, where funeral services will be held at 11 AM Thursday, August 9, 2018. Rev. Fr. John Seabold pastor of Our Lady Queen of Peace Catholic Church will officiate.
