Obituary for Kathryn A. Swartz

Kathryn A. "Kay" Swartz (nee: Maxwell) 85, of Elyria passed away unexpectedly on Friday May 4, 2018 at UH Elyria Medical Center. She was born April 15, 1933 in Sydney, Australia. Her father was an employee of The Goodyear Tire and Rubber Co., he and his wife moved to Akron when Kathryn was fourteen years old. She was a graduate of Buchtel High School and then attended Akron University for two years, then earned her degree in Home Economics from The Ohio State University. Kay had worked several years as a Home Economist for Ohio Edison. As a teenager she was active in the Akron Assembly #15 of Rainbow for girls, and had served as Worthy Advisor. Kathryn was proud to be the mother of four wonderful children and seven grandchildren. She was a member of Westlake United Methodist Church where she was active with the United Methodist Women's Group. Kathryn was also active in a knitting group at her community; Wesleyan Meadows. She was a kind and caring woman who reached out to members of her community in their times of need, and was a certified Stephen Minister. During the last seventeen years , she and her husband Dick have lived in the Wesleyan Meadows Retirement Community in Sheffield Village. Kay is survived by her husband of sixty four years; Richard T. "Dick" Swartz, additional survivors include her children; Stephen (Allison) of Paris, France, Kenneth (Denise) of Farmington, MI., Susan McFeely (Bill) of East Aurora, NY., Timothy (Jennifer) of East Greenwich, RI, and a brother; Donald Maxwell (Beth) of Powell, OH. Kay was preceded in death by her parents; Charles and Helen (nee: McCoy) Maxwell. A Celebration of Kay's life will be 11:00 AM Saturday May 12, 2018 at Westlake United Methodist Church 27650 Center Ridge Rd. Westlake, OH 44145 where the family will receive friends from 10:00 AM until time of services at 11:00 AM. Entombment will be private at Rosehill Burial Park in Akron. Memorial contributions in Kay's memory may be sent to Westlake United Methodist Church.
