Obituary for John B. "Jack" Plas

John “Jack” Bernard Plas 91, of Elyria passed away Friday October 30, 2020 at The Abbewood in Elyria following a long illness. Jack was born August 14, 1929 in Elyria where he was a lifelong resident. He served Korea with the United States Navy, and Flotilla 911 with the United States Coast Guard Auxiliary. Jack was a former Captain on The Carlisle Township Fire Department, and was co owner of Plas Construction. He was a member of St. Mary Church in Elyria where he belonged to The Holy Name Society. Jack was also a member of St. Vincent DePaul Society; and a life member of three Veteran’s associations; AmVets Post #32, American Legion Post 12, V.F.W. Post# 1079. He also belonged to the Knights of Columbus Council #774, Moose Lodge, and a social member of The Elyria United Polish Club. Survivors include three daughters; Barbara Allman (the late Daniel) of Canal Fulton, Deborah L. Gray (Robert) of Elyria, Jane M. Shubert (Scott) of Northfield Center, a son; Donald (Kelly) of Grafton. Additional survivors include; grandchildren; Melissa (Michael), Matthew (Sarah), David (Kimberly), Elizabeth, John, Joshua, Kay-La (Brett), Alea, great grandchildren; Reagan, Brooklyn, Payton, and a brother; Donald. Jack was preceded in death by his wife of sixty three years; JoAnne M. (nee: Myers), his parents; Herman J. Sr. and Delores (nee: Linden) Plas, and six brothers; Justin, Joseph, Richard, Thomas, Paul, and Herman J. Jr. Jack requested that due to the COVID 19 pandemic his funeral services be private to protect his friends and family. Burial will be at St. Mary Cemetery in Elyria where V.F.W. Post#1079 will provide full military honors. Funeral arrangements were entrusted to The Laubenthal-Mercado Funeral Home of Elyria (440)322-4626.
