Obituary for Helen Emma Klan

Helen Emma Klan (nee: Purvis) 96, of Elyria passed away Saturday April 27, 2019 at Arden Courts of Westlake. She was born May 25, 1922 in Chicago, IL. Helen moved to Penfield in 1945, and then to Elyria in 1987. She had worked as a telephone operator in Chicago for AT&T following her graduation from Manley High School. Helen worked nights for twelve years as a telephone operator in Wellington, then transferred to the Oberlin Telephone Co. She worked for seventeen and a half years at The Ridge Tool Co. retiring in 1982. Helen belonged to LaGrange Homemakers. She loved making crafts, and crocheted over 1,000 name doilies, playing cards. She traveled to Europe twice, Hawaii, Alaska, two cruises, and all over the U.S.A. by bus and train. Survivors include a grandson; Raymond W. Klan of Naperville, IL., nieces and nephews, dear friends; Lynne M. Sexstella (Thomas) of Vermilion, Jeannie A. Nolan of Amherst. Helen was preceded in death by her husband; Raymond F. a son; Raymond E. , her parents; Edward C. and Anna (nee: Sattler) Purvis, a sister; Genevieve Lawlor, and her companion; John Matesic. Funeral services are 11:00 AM Wednesday May 1, 2019 at The Laubenthal-Mercado Funeral Home and Cremation Services 38475 Chestnut Ridge Rd. (at State Rt. 57) Elyria (440)322-4626 where the family will receive friends from 10:00 AM until time of services at 11:00 AM. Burial will be at Greenwood Cemetery in Wellington.
