Obituary for Gerald "Jerry" Vermilye

Gerald “Jerry” Vermilye 82, of Valley City (formerly of North Ridgeville) passed away Saturday April 24, 2021 at his home following a long illness. He was born August 16, 1938 in Cleveland, OH. Jerry served in the U.S. Army, and had worked as the Director of Maintenance for LifeCare Centers of America. He treasured spending time with his family, and was involved in various church ministries. Jerry enjoyed cars, and woodworking. Survivors include two sons; Michael (Nancy) of South Carolina, Brian (Barb) of Valley City, five grandchildren and one great grandchild. Jerry was preceded in death by his wife of fifty four years; Ann W. (nee: Riggle), his parents; Henry and Irene (nee: Estep) Vermilye, as well as three sisters and five brothers. A Celebration of Jerry’s life will be 10:00 AM Saturday May 1, 2021 at LaPorte United Methodist Church 2071 Grafton Rd. Elyria, OH 44035. Reverend William Baker will officiate. Covid 19 guidelines will apply, please wear a face covering. Burial with full military honors will be private at Ohio Western Reserve National Cemetery in Rittman, OH. The family suggests memorial contributions in Jerry’s memory be sent to LaPorte United Methodist Church. Funeral arrangements were entrusted to The Laubenthal-Mercado Funeral Home of Elyria (440)322-4626. Online condolences to the family may be expressed at www.laubenthalmercado.com
