Obituary for Carolyn E. Russell

Carolyn E. Russell (nee Erckert), 88, of Elyria died suddenly and quickly on April 23, 2018. Carol was born in Buffalo,NY. May 16, 1929. She married Edison Russell in 1952. They had 4 children Pammy, Jimmy, Jeffy, and Debbie. The family moved to Elyria in 1958, when Ed started work at the Lorain Ford Plant. Carol was an Assistant Gym Teacher , Bowling and volleyball coach at St. Mary’s School in Elyria, during the 60’s and early 70’s. Carol was very active until her final day. She enjoyed playing bridge, bowling, golfing, poker, volleyball, shuffleboard and camping. Carol was inducted into the Elyria Women’s Bowling Hall of Fame for superior performance in 1982. She bowled in many leagues in Elyria and N. Ridgeville. Carol was looking forward to the start of golf season, she was hoping to get her 3rd hole-in-one. She golfed in leagues at Forest Hills, Cherry Ridge and in the LDCWGA. Carol played bridge in many games around the Lorain County Area. She also enjoyed cards, lunch and shuffleboard with the Seniors of the Elyria Park and Rec. Carol and Ed traveled across the Country camping, biking, hiking and canoeing. After Ed’s death in 1997, she camped around Texas with her daughter Pam. Carol enjoyed a good sunset and sitting around a campfire after a day of enjoying the beauty of nature. Carol is survived by her children; Pam of Houston,TX., Jym of Butte,MT., Jeff of San Diego, CA., Deb of Elyria and her brother Charles (Bud) Erckert of Cattaraugus,NY. She was fond of saying she had no grandchildren that she knew of but countless nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband Edison A. Russell Jr.; parents G. Earl and Gertrude Erckert and brother Grant (Buster) Erckert Jr. There will be no services. Please enjoy a beautiful flower or a good sunset and think of her. Carol’s kids would like to thank all her family and friends who helped make her life so full.
