Obituary for Beatrice "Bebe" Brenner

The daughters of Beatrice (Bebe) Brenner regret to announce her passing on August 13, 2020 in Elyria, Ohio, almost 2 months to the day from the death of her husband of 70 years, Nathan Brenner. Bebe was born to Jewish immigrants from Central and Eastern Europe in St. Paul. Minnesota in 1930. Her mother was Minnie Goodman and father was Jack Halpern,. The Goodman’s were a very large extended family which included many successful business people as well as a cousin, Morley Meredith, who was an opera singer and a second cousin who was a child movie star, Susan Gordon. Bebe married Nathan Brenner, of Elyria, in 1950 in Saint Paul. And in 1951 they came to Lorain County where they lived the rest of their lives. Bebe was a consummate homemaker of that era, reading each month’s Ladies Home Journal, Redbook, and Women’s Day; she kept an immaculate and beautiful home where she welcomed many guests. Our mother had an artistic flair and put that energy into amazing culinary creations. We grew up with one delicious meal after another. She passed her love of cooking on to both daughters, and her grandchildren have the same passion. A person of deep feeling, weeping in 1963 at the death of Pope John XXIII, she was also an incredibly persuasive saleswoman, winning accolades during her time working as a realtor. Like Nate, Bebe was strong and athletic, and for decades they participated in couples’ leagues for bowling and golf. She walked Brentwood Lake Village every day for decades, and indeed kept on walking until the last week of her long life. She had a great appreciation of beauty, and especially the beauty of nature. In lieu of flowers, family will be grateful for contributions in Bebe’s memory to The Nature Conservancy https://www.nature.org/en-us/ or to a charity of your choice. Left to cherish her memory are daughters Jan Brenner Young, (Steve) of Sheffield Village, OH. and Randee Goodstadt of Asheville, N.C. She was a loving and caring grandma, and she also leaves her granddaughter Julie Josipovich (Nir) of Charlotte, N.C., and grandson DJ Goodstadt (Andrea) of Brooklyn, NY.; great grandchildren Eli and Maya Josipovich, and Ethan Goodstadt. Private graveside services were held at Agudath Achim Cemetery. Rabbi Lauren Werber officiated. Arrangements were entrusted to the Laubenthal-Mercado Funeral Home and Cremation Service of Elyria, 440-322-4626. On line condolences may be expressed to the family at www.laubenthalmercado.com.
